Painted during a secluded plein air retreat, this aspen study ended up being less about the landscape and more about the gesture of one branch reaching outward across the trunk, like an arm in motion. At the time I was deeply engaged in caring for others while also trying to grow my own abilities and my own artistic voice. This reaching limb became a mirror for both — service and self-development held together, not as opposing forces, but as living parts of the same upward movement.
