This painting started on a day when my plans fell apart — delays, miscommunication, all the things that unravel a plan. I didn't have time anymore to make the painting I'd intended, so I painted a bunch of tulips I had in the studio instead, and left the canvas behind them untouched.. It became a lesson in forgiving imperfect circumstances — my own and other people's — and in flexibility and adaptability. Sometimes accepting what is actually in front of us opens a door we couldn't have seen from the plan we were holding onto.
